he town of Zabljak is situated at 1465 meters above sea level. As such it is considered to be one of the highest towns in Southeast Europe. It is located at the foot of the Mount Durmitor considered to be the crown of the Montenegrin mountain chain. Durmitor is a national park and is protected by UNESCO. It is surrounded by 18 emerald glacier lakes called “the mountain eyes” and over 20 summits of over 2.200m above sea level.

The largest and most beautiful Black Lake (Crno jezero), is located 1.5 kilometers from the town. Its name evokes the glare of high evergreen black forest that surrounds it. The highest mountain peak is Bobotov kuk at 2523 meters above sea level.

In the area of Durmitor national park there are numerous mountain caves some of which are the fascinating natural phenomenon called Durmitor Ice Cave just below the top peak called Obla Glava at 2,100 meters above sea level. They can be reached relatively easily following the marked mountain path. Caving can be undertaken at several sites – cave on Vjetrena Brda (deepest in Montenegro), cave in Malom Lomnom (the most challenging one that has not been fully explored) and cave on Obrucinama (464 meters deep). The latter one is a good starting point for all the lovers of this extreme and exciting sport.

Hiking trails are well marked and there is an organized mountain guide service.

The bridge Đurđevića Tara and the river Tara (known as the "Tear of Europe") run partly through the National Park Durmitor. They gather tourists looking for adventure and excitement. Rafting trips down almost the entire flow of Tara present adrenaline packed adventure. Bungee jumping lovers have the opportunity to launch themselves off the majestic Djurdjevica Tara bridge. It features stunning height of over 150 meters. Tara River has carved the deepest canyon in Europe and the world, second only to the Colorado canyon in USA. It is an ideal place for adventure, fishing and rafting lovers of either modern or ancient wooden rafting options.

Ski centers in and around Zabljak are Savin kuk, Stuoc and Javorovaca and they feature slopes of different difficulty levels for all Alpine disciplines
